Welcome to Northside Elementary School!

Dear Northside Families,

On behalf of the entire staff, welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! Our staff feels that while the last several years have been great at Northside, this coming school year will be one of the best!

Throughout my first year as principal, I was continually impressed by so many wonderful things about Northside School; I quickly learned that these “things” are the people. Students amazed me by their creativity, love of learning, and commitment to work hard even when challenged. The teachers and support staff have been, in my opinion, “top-notch” and are tireless in their efforts to do what is in the best interest of the students. Parents and extended family members have also been instrumental to Northside. On a daily basis, we have been fortunate to have parents giving up their time to assist teachers and students. All of these elements are what makes Northside such a great school!

Our staff-selected school motto of Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day is a constant reminder of our commitment to the building goals of high student achievement, creating high quality instructional leaders, and enhancing a positive, caring environment. We were so pleased to see the incredible gains, both academically and socially, that students made last year and we hope to push them even further this year. We are feeling confident in our curriculum and have a plan in place to address those areas that we feel need greater attention. I have seen an exemplary staff grow even stronger as they are always enhancing their instructional practices and make it a priority to understand each student’s strengths, interests, and areas of need. I continue to be awed by their skills and dedication to this profession.

The District is working on an initiative to create a positive behavioral support system for our students, otherwise known as PBIS. Many members of the Northside staff have put in countless hours creating tools to teach our three agreements (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe) and developing student recognition systems. Throughout the year, we will focus our efforts on teaching school expectations and enhancing a positive, fun, respectful community of learners. While a strong focus this year will include social and emotional learning, I assure you that our academic expectations will remain very high. We will continue to provide educational programs that meet the learning needs of ALL of our students.

I want to thank you in advance for all of your efforts in working with us and I hope that we can only strengthen this partnership over the next several months. You play a very important role in your child’s success. I understand that families are incredibly busy and we appreciate your commitment to making time for homework, reading with your child, and working with the teachers.

Once again, welcome to the new school year! We are looking forward to a year filled with numerous academic, social, and emotional successes. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever! I truly feel privileged to be a part of this journey that will prepare our children for the future. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
