MY CHILD WASN'T GIVEN A TEACHER RECOMMENDATION. CAN I SIGN UP FOR A TEACHER RECOMMENDED CLUSTER/CLASS?
No. If your child wasn't given a teacher recommendation, then you should choose another Cluster or Class for your child. If you would like to be put on a waiting list for one of the Clusters/Classes that requires a teacher recommendation, then please contact the Summer School Office and we will add your name to the list. After registration has ended, we will notify you if a spot is available for your child in a teacher recommended Cluster or Class. (If a student is registered for a teacher recommended Cluster and is not on the Teacher Recommendation List, we will remove the student from that Cluster.)
WHY CAN'T I CHOOSE WHAT CLASSES MY 1st THRU 4th GRADER CAN ATTEND FOR EACH HOUR?
Due to COVID-19, this year we are offering groups of classes for our youngest learners, called “Clusters”. The reason for this is that it reduces person-to-person contact, since each “Cluster” will move to the same classes throughout the four-hour summer school day. We are making every effort to keep our students and staff members healthy.
CAN I ALSO SIGN UP FOR SWIMMING LESSONS IF I SIGNED MY CHILD UP FOR A CLUSTER?
Yes! If you have signed your child up for a Cluster, but would like to also send them to Swimming Lessons during the 8am - 12:15pm time frame, please add your child to the Swimming Lesson request list by selecting “Period” 0 from the drop-down menu and click on “Apply Filter.” Swimming Lessons should be the only choice. Adding Course 895/06 will put your child on the waiting list for YMCA classes and adding Course 896/06 will put your child on the waiting list for Rec. Park swimming classes.
DO I HAVE TO ATTEND SUMMER SCHOOL IF I JUST WANT TO TAKE SWIMMING LESSONS?
No. If you would like to just sign up for Swimming Lessons or MAST (Monroe Area Swim Team), flip to pages 18 & 19 of the Summer School Book to see what is being offered through the YMCA and Monroe Park and Rec. Use the Course ID in the first column of the book to register your child for your desired swimming class.
I WANT MY CHILD TO ATTEND A SPECIFIC SWIMMING CLASS DURING THE 8am-12:15pm TIME SLOT. CAN I CHOOSE WHICH CLASS IS REPLACED IN MY CLUSTER?
You may reach out to the Summer School office if your child requires a specific swimming class time; however, the class in your child’s Cluster that will be replaced will be at the discretion of Summer School Administration. Due to limited space, and scheduling restrictions, we cannot promise that your request will be approved. HOWEVER, we will make every effort to work with parents and students to adjust their schedules to accommodate extenuating circumstances and sibling schedules.
I DON'T LIKE ANY OF THE CLUSTERS. CAN I CHOOSE WHICH CLASSES MY CHILD HAS?
While we’ve made every attempt to group classes into Clusters that are diverse, you may not be content with the Clusters we’ve created. However, we invite you to choose a Cluster and encourage your child to participate fully. You never know how much fun they will have or what they will learn until they try!
DO I HAVE TO SEND MY CHILD TO EVERY CLASS IN THEIR CLUSTER?
It is the parent’s discretion to send their child to all of the classes in their Cluster. For example, if you choose to bring your child to summer school at 9:15am, instead of at 8:00am, please communicate that with Summer School so we know that your child will not be in a certain class. Attendance is taken, and we will be looking for your child. Students who ride the bus both to and from summer school must register for four (4) hours of classes. Students not wanting to attend four (4) hours of classes may take advantage of busing either to or from school and parents will have to provide the other transportation.
I'M ONLY GOING TO SEND MY CHILD TO 2 OF THE 4 CLASSES IN MY CLUSTER. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL OF THE CLASSES?
Yes. Once you sign up for a Cluster, you are registered for all of the classes in that Cluster. Except for swimming lessons, fees will not be adjusted if you choose to not attend a class within that Cluster.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR SUMMER SCHOOL?
Register online using Family Access through the Monroe School District website: www.monroeschools.com. Click on the “Family Access” icon in the top right corner and log in using your Family Access login and password.
WHAT IS MY FAMILY ACCESS USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
Generally, your username is your first name, a period, and your last name. (For example John Doe would be john.doe) Your password is probably something you thought you would remember. But if you’ve forgotten your password, call 608-328-7400 and we will help you reset it!
MY CHILD DOESN'T LIVE IN THE MONROE SCHOOL DISTRICT. CAN I ATTEND YOUR SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS?
Out of district students (who are not currently Open Enrolled) will be required to pay tuition of $5 per hour per day above and beyond the regular fees. For example, if you would like to sign your child up for a Cluster, you would pay the fees associated with that Cluster, along with $300 tuition ($5.00 x 4 hours = $20.00 a day / $20.00/day x 5 days = $100/week / $100/week x 3 weeks = $300.00) Call the Summer School Office for assistance 608-328-7400
MY CHILD ALREADY RIDES THE BUS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. DO I HAVE TO FILL OUT A BUS FORM FOR SUMMER SCHOOL?
YES! Even though you are on a bus route for the school year, Summer School is different and the bus routes are different to accommodate Summer School. You need to fill out a Bus Form and/or Alternate Bus Request Form (found at the back of the Summer School Book OR by clicking here) and return it to the Summer School office or NO BUSING WILL BE PROVIDED for your child. The deadline to return the Bus Forms to the Summer School office is April 19, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. (Want to save time? Use the form-fillable Bus Form and email it to the Summer School Office)
ARE MASKS REQUIRED FOR SUMMER SCHOOL?
At this time, we are still following the same COVID safety protocols that we’ve been using during the school year. This includes mask wearing, social distancing, smaller class sizes, frequent hand sanitizing and frequent disinfection of surfaces. Should any of these protocols be changed, we will provide that information to parents and students as soon as possible.
WILL THERE BE LUNCH AND BREAKFAST FOR MY SUMMER SCHOOL STUDENT?
Yes. Breakfast and lunch will still be provided, as in previous years.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR 2021
We are excited to offer our families a return to in-person summer school courses for students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade this summer!
Because of COVID-19 precautions, Summer School 2021, like everything else this past year, will have a new look to accommodate social distancing and safety measures to keep our students and staff members healthy!
For students entering Grades 1 through 4, we will be offering groups of classes for each grade level, called “Clusters”. The purpose of clusters is to minimize person-to-person contact for our youngest learners and complements other strategies to reduce the spread of germs, including mask-wearing, frequent hand washing, and social distancing, among others.
In short, you will be signing up your child for ONE Cluster, not one class per time period as in the previous years. The Summer School Book will show which clusters are offered for each grade level(s), and the course descriptions will also be in the book. Summer swimming lessons are still being offered, but are not included in any of the clusters. If you choose to sign your child up for swimming lessons, one of the classes in your cluster will be replaced at the discretion of Summer School Administration, based on class-size.
Students entering grades 5 - 8 will sign up for classes in the same way as previous years.
We are looking forward to a fun and safe 2021 Summer School experience!
